hello rob

been a while since you've been on here [-( :))

to clean the gearbox, i sprayed with degreaser, then power washed carefully. i didn't sand-blast it

the box wasn't that oily really, but i washed the grime off in my solvent based parts washer

i then used a wire brush attatchment on a drill and cleaned off the harder crud

and then simply spray painted and lacquered ;) :-bd

so i've had 250 trouble free miles, (not really been over 60mph) but decided to get 'black beauty' rolling roaded today. 2 reasons really

1st - it was nearly 4 years since it was last done. i know i haven't done any miles, but having most of the engine in bits when adding chrome, painted or polished bits, i might have put something out of place.

october 2006, results were 134bhp@wheels.

2nd - having changed the gearbox, the car didn't seem to pull aswell

so now optimax is fueling her and nice fresh oil, let's see what the results are, for a 15k mile engine

the results were - nothing needed tweaking, or needed to be adjusted :D

still has around 155bhp@flywheel, but now running 133bhp@wheels :D so down by 1bhp, because of transmission 8-|

so after paul @ skip brown gave it a good thrashing, so did i !

all i can say is WOW ! :ymsmug: :D that rev counter gets to the redline very quickly \:D/ my gti begs to be thrashed :))

i also called in on the previous owner of the car. i think he was very impressed ;) and that was before i took him out for a drive :))

i should really thank him for giving me the gti bug back in the day, when i was just a passenger in 'black beauty'

^:)^ ^:)^ thanks 'H'

Nice stuff mate. looks relly shiny still.

I'm sure mine could do with a pro tune up.
Still pulls well but after 130.000 she's not at her best i'm sure :)

had a bit of good news today (well maybe not good /:))

took 'black beauty' back to the guy who did the paint, to ask him what he is going to do about the blemishes in the paintwork, along the edge of the n/s wing, under the rear 1/4 window, and on the edge of the bonnet

conclusion was, i take the car back to him on the 1st of september, for one week only :-j for him to prep and spray the whole nearside again :-s

as for the edge of the bonnet, i'm taking him another brand new bonnet to be painted at the same time

so fingers crossed he'll honour his word and sort the bodywork properly :ympray:

roll on september, as once the car is sorted, back in the garage she'll go :D

so do i paul :ympray:

end of the day kev, at least it's an easier paint to match than metallics, or pearlescents.

i can hardly take it to shows next year with the paint as it is :ymsigh:

i'm not expecting 1st places, but top three would suffice :ymsmug: ;)
