Timing belt change on 1.3

Postby bigmark45 » Tue Apr 04, 2017 12:12 pm

Hi there, I'm in the process of buying a 1990 1.3 309. The car has full service history, mot and appears to be in exceptional condition. However, there is no evidence of the timing belt ever have been changed and the car has 77k on it. Shouldn't this have been done at @50k?
The car is driving fine etc, but just had hoped I wouldn't have this job to do straight away.

Any thoughts/opinions appreciated.

thanks
Mark

I've since found out this is an overhead valve engine with a timing chain, so no need to comment. I've bought the car anyway and in the process of transporting it from UK to Ireland.

Hi , I have no experience of the engines with a timing chain but I suppose they can wear or stretch with high mileages . Good luck with your new 309 .
