Let us know how your Peugeot 309 is looking

The story of our rallying exploits in 2011 hasn’t been updated since August, so as we get towards the end of the year, it’s a good time to finish the story.

Only one more event to report on, - the Colin McRae Forest Stages back in October, but it’s not good news.

Perthshire is never a particularly dry part of the country, but on the day of the rally, it really excelled itself, and treated us to a monsoon. The conditions were bloody awful on the stages, as we headed for Drummond Hill, which was pretty rough, and dislodged the exhaust.

The exhaust was fitted back up at the first service halt, but came off again in Errochty, and this time it was too badly damaged to be re-fitted, so we headed for Craigvinean, with no exhaust and a lot of noise.

Over the summer, we had modified a set of suspension arms, to try to improve the location of the hubs. We fitted spherical bearings which were supposedly widely used in “all forms of motorsport.“ They said!!!

Having got through Drummond Hill and Erochty, we headed off to Craigvinean, which was going well, until about four miles in, on a fast, sweeping, right hand bend, there was a bang, the car lurched to the left, stood on its nose, and tumbled head-first over a banking. Examining the wreckage, we found that one of the spherical bearings we had fitted to the suspension arms had broken.

So that was “Game Over” in a big way.

During the summer of 2010, an advert appeared on this forum for a Goodwood rolling shell, which was rather unkindly described on here as “an overpriced garden ornament” Although advertised as a rolling shell, it was almost a complete car minus doors, tailgate & axle, so it was too good a chance to miss and we bought it as a spare.
Image
Now, with the demise of the red shell, the Goodwood lives to fight another day. The rebuild is coming along quite well, but it’s a slow process doing the structural work. In the meantime, we’ve just bought a 4.4;1 final drive from BazGTMi, so that should make a fair performance improvement.

See you in 2012

We've been busy with the rebuild, but for a variety of reasons which aren't worth going into here, we're about six weeks behind where we wanted to be.

Inspector Gadget has spent lots of hours seam-welding the shell, and fitting the cage.

So now, AT LAST! it's away to the paint shop;

Next time you see it, it will be all white

Long list of problems, but has anybody had experience of timing belts jumping teeth?
